Understanding the Commonwealth Home Support Programme
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme is better known by its acronym, CHSP. It is funded by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and provides entry-level support at home.
CHSP is for people aged over 65, or over 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who want to keep living in their own home with a little extra help.
It is built on a wellness and reablement approach. That means support is designed to work with you and build on what you can already do, rather than take the task over. If your needs become more complex over time, you can be referred for Support at Home funding.

How it works

Contact My Aged Care
Phone 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au to check your eligibility and find the right programme.

Assessment
An Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or Regional Assessment Service assessor will contact you to arrange a home assessment. After the assessment, My Aged Care will let you know the level of support and services you have been approved for.

Call Disability Care Solutions on 1300 817 524 to talk through what you need. If you are eligible for government-funded support, the cost of these services is covered.
